Dear Fellow Scouter,

Our children are returning to school.  How quickly the summer has passed.  The past two weeks have been filled with many Council, District and Unit planning activities.

Next Wednesday, August 27th at 7:00 PM, our district will be holding a scout recruitment training night at the Brown Pavilion at Hoyt Scout Reservation in Redding.  Click here for directions. This is an informational gathering on running a unit recruitment event.  Bring a flashlight for your way back to your vehicle.

Your unit’s recruitment night is supported with flyer support and more.  Please contact our District Executive, Frank Considine, fconsidi@bsamail.org or (203) 876-6868, Ext. 248. There will also be flyers on training at our district website.  As a Cub Scout incentive, if registered by September 30th, the Tiger will receive a lunchbox, and Cubs a pinewood derby kit.  A scout/parent coordinator for each pack qualifies for a free bag. Please e-mail me if I can support your unit recruitment in any manner.

Popcorn is upon us.  On line ordering begins on September 5th.  The youth kick off is scheduled for September 13th.  More information is available at the Connecticut Yankee Council website. There are unique gifts if you participate. Maryanne Hilker is assisting our popcorn kernel, and can assist at hilker@ctyankee.org or (203) 876-6868, Ext. 255.

Our first District Committee meeting of this school year will be on Wednesday, September 3rd at St. Thomas Church in Bethel at 7:30 PM  Come, represent your unit, engage the District Committee in plans for the year.  Hope to see you there. 

Roundtable is the 2nd Wednesday of the month, September 10th, also at St. Thomas Church in Bethel at 7:30 PM.  Run by the Commissioner staff, the program will be based on community tables,  focusing on unique opportunities and challenges by town.  This is a wonderful friendship and fellowship event.  Program support and other information is available. Camporee is coming fast on October 31^st at Hoyt Scout Reservation.  The Scatacook chapter of the Order of the Arrow is the host.  A “Haunted” camporee is the theme. Registration and program material are available here.

On Thursday, October 2nd, we will be having a distinguished Scouter tribute breakfast at the Ethan Allen Hotel in Danbury.  Information is available on the website. Download the flyer here.
