Posted Jan. 24, 2012 |
February 4, 2012 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Holy Infant School, 450 Racebrook Road, Orange, CT
A WAPA is a Webelos Activity Pin Academy. Webelos Scouts will be able to pick two or three Activity Pins to work on with local Boy Scouts helping to teach the skills. It will be an action packed day with the added opportunity of being able to see all of our local Scout Troops in action so that each Webelos Scout can start to pick the "best fit" troop to move up to after Cub Scouts. There will be three 90 minute Activity Pin sessions (two in the morning and one after lunch). Some Activity Pins may run for more than one session. For some pins, not all requirements will be able to be finished that day. The cost is only $5.00 for each Webelos Scout if they are registered by the Early Bird Date of Dec. 31, 2011. After that date the cost will be $7.00 and no registrations will be accepted after January 15th. There will be no charge for Leaders or parents. ($2.00 charge only if adults want a patch.) Everyone should bring their own lunch.

FOR BOY SCOUT TROOPS
February 4, 2012 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Holy Infant School, 450 Racebrook Road, Orange, CT
WAPA, the Webelos Activity Pin Academy, is back and we are looking for Troops to run Activity Pin Workshops for our District's Webelos Scouts. Webelos Scouts will be able to pick 2-3 Activity Pins to work on during the day with Boy Scouts from your Troop helping to teach the skills. It is a great opportunity for your Scouts to put their Leadership Skills to work while "recruiting" potential new Scouts.
There will be no cost to Boy Scouts or Leaders. All we ask is that you supply the man power and materials needed to run two or three Activity Pin sessions (two in the morning and one in the afternoon). Each session will run for 90 minutes. You can offer one pin to take up two session if necessary. We will also have a "Troop Open House Midway" during lunch break where you can display pictures and information about your troop.
Activity Pin Choices will be on a first come basis. All troops that turn in Pin Choices by the December Roundtable will receive patches for the Scouts who participate (up to 10/troop). Additional patches will be available for $2.00.
For questions, contact Donna Wesolowski at donnaweso@optimum.net.

| Wepawaug Valley District - New Tour Plan Guidelines and Procedure |
Posted Mar. 7, 2011 |
*****This has been taken from the 'Council News' section. Just wanted to make sure everyone saw this!!!*****
Effective March 1, 2011, what are currently known as local and national Tour Permits will be replaced by a "Tour Plan" and the online tour permit system will no longer be available.
The tour plan is a checklist for best practices to be prepared for safe and fun adventure. Completing the tour plan may not address all possible challenges but can help ensure that appropriate planning has been conducted, that qualified and trained leadership is in place, and that the right equipment is available for the adventure.
In addition, the plan helps to organize safe and appropriate transportation to and from an event, and defines driver qualifications and minimum limits of insurance coverage for drivers and vehicles used to transport participants.
Tour plans are necessary for trips outside the Connecticut Yankee Council territory and not going to a Council-owned camp property, for trips to any national high-adventure base, Jamboree, OA Conference or regionally sponsored event; or when conducting the following activities outside of Council or district events:
* Aquatics activities (swimming, boating, floating, scuba, etc.)
* Climbing or rappelling
* Orientation flights (process flying plan)
* Shooting sports
* Any activities involving motorized vehicles as part of the program (snowmobiles,
boating, etc.) Please note that this means that even if you are within council borders, you must file a tour plan if you plan to participate in the above activities.
Tour Plans must be submitted at least two weeks prior to your trip. |
