Scouts CAN for the Pomperaug District

Pomperaug District Scouts CAN District Events

Scouts CAN Roadshow – Your Scouts CAN District Chairman (Scott Redfern) will travel to your Unit’s troop meeting, CoH or Parents meeting to talk about the program and Habitat for Humanity to help energize the unit, brainstorm about possible activities and help your unit get active in the program.  To schedule a visit, contact Scott Redfern via e-mail at mtnrunner@charter.net

Scouts CAN Habitat Workday – A Habitat workday opportunity for Scouters and Boy Scouts to experience what Habitat for Humanity is all about.  Units which are interested, will be partnered with a Habitat family that wants a shed built in their yard.  Habitat of Coastal Fairfield County will provide the blueprints for a simple shed, the family will pay for the materials (or the unit could contribute all or part of the costs if desired), and the Boy Scout unit will provide the tools and labor to build the shed.  This is a great opportunity to get to know a Habitat family and help them out too!  Please contact Scott to sign your unit up.

Scouts CAN Habitat Activities for Troops & Packs – Work for Habitat that CAN be done by younger Scouts and Packs as well.  Habitat is collecting wood scraps from the worksites for our use in building bird houses, bat houses, key racks, etc. which can then be sold to raise money for Scouts CAN OR given back to Habitat families as house warming gifts.  People who buy the crafts will own a little piece of a Habitat home to help build more!  Contact Scott to arrange for a delivery of FREE scraps to start your craft project!

Clean a Worksite, Get a Special Tour – Habitat of Coastal Fairfield County is beginning to run tours of its historic Williams Street project in Bridgeport where they are rennovating an old building to create 12 Habitat condos.  It is a VERY COOL project.  Units who offer to help clean the job site before or after the VIP Donor Tours will get a tour of the job site themselves by Habitat workers.  Register with Scott now for tours being scheduled for May and June.

Building Easels – Habitat needs 12 easels for their Williams street tours to showcase the 12 Habitat families who will become the homeowners once complete.  Plans and materials will be provided to the unit(s) who want to build the easels before the end of April.  You know who to contact... :-)
