We Are Making a Difference

I’m not sure that much as changed since Baden Powell held his first Scoutmaster training course in 1911 or his first Wood Badge course in 1919. Today, nearly 100 years later, we are still doing our best to train our Scoutmasters (and now, our Cubmasters and Crew Advisors) in the best ways to deliver our high quality programs to our Scouts, and the best ways to lead our youth.

The first Chief Scout Executive, James E. West, has been credited with responding to the question: “What more do you need to make Scouting successful?” with “Three things – training, training, and more training.” Well, everything we do in Scouting, everything you do as unit leaders and parents, touches on training. We first must learn before we can teach. We all try, in our own ways, to learn as much as we can about this program we call Scouting, and then we all try, in our own ways, to teach our youth as much as we can about Scouting. Each in our own ways, we’re being trained, and we’re training others.

Margaret Mead said it best: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."

Thank you being a thoughtful parent, leader, citizen. Thank you for helping to change the world. Our youth appreciate it.
