This Is Scouting

"This Is Scouting" is an introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history, funding, and methods of Scouting. It replaces New Leader Essentials (effective March 15, 2009). This program is available through the BSA Online Learning Center.

New Leader Brochures for Cub Scout Leaders

This series of brochures is designed to provide an at-a-glance orientation for new Cub Scout leaders. Files are in PDF format:

Getting Started On-Line

The first step to getting started is to visit http://www.scouting.org and click My Scouting Login Screenon the link for "". Here you'll need to set up your own personal account so that you'll receive full credit for the trainings in your personal profile with Council. You will need your individual Member ID number located on your membership card. If you do not have it, you can contact your unit's advancement coordinator who can retrieve the number through the Internet Advancement application, or contact your district executive who can look it up. You may also need our Council number: Connecticut Yankee Council is number 072.

Note: You must be a registered leader in order to receive a Member ID number. You can set up an account without it, but your record at Council may not reflect completion of the training unless a membership number is entered.

Once you've set up your account with MyScouting, you're ready to go. Follow the link to "E-Learning" and get started.

Training Validation Feature

Effective July 1, 2010, the BSA Online Learning Center added a new feature: "Training Validation”. Available through the normal MyScouting login, Training Validation allows the user to look up the ScoutNet Training Records for ANY registered leader. You can look up yours or another Scout Leader's records in one of two ways: all training courses available in the system, or just Youth Protection Training taken in the past 2 years.

Training Validation is a new menu item located under E-Learning on the left hand side menu. Clicking on Training Validation opens a new Training Search window. A link for "Advanced Search" allows for the input of a Scouter's name. A help button on the upper right side of the web page (the question mark) can also provide assistance.
