Youth Protection training is required for all BSA registered volunteers. While the BSA requirement is completion of Youth Protection training every two years, in Connecticut Yankee Council, Youth Protection training must be completed EVERY YEAR. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter ("current" means completed within the current calendar year), the volunteer will be removed from the Unit charter and will not be reregistered.
If you are a new leader, you must complete Youth Protection training within 30 days of submitting an application. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.
Youth Protection training may be taken online through your My.Scouting account. To take Youth Protection training, you must first create an online account in My.Scouting and then take the online training. The course takes about 20-25 minutes to complete. If you do not have a BSA membership ID number when you initially complete this training, please print a copy of the completion certificate (available at the end of the online training course) and submit the certificate to your Unit leader (keep a copy for yourself). Once you receive a BSA membership ID number, you will need to then update your My.Scouting account profile with your BSA membership ID number.
Please note that BSA offers three Youth Protection training courses online. One course is designed for adult leaders of youth in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. A second course is designed for adult leaders of youth in the Venturing program. A third course is designed for adult leaders in the Exploring program (and is very similar to the Venturing Youth Protection training course).
