Sea Scouts Committee - Council Sea Scouting Wardroom Posted Apr. 13, 2008
The Council Sea Scouting Wardroom will meet next on Monday, April 21, 7:00 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church Library, 651 Pequot Avenue in Southport.
The wardroom is made up of all council members and Ship skippers, officers and committee members. All others interested in the Sea Scouting program are welcome. The wardroom usually meets on the second Monday of every month (January - December), 7:00 p.m. at the church.

Sea Scouts Committee - Sea Scout Officer Training Posted Jan. 14, 2008
New Leader Essentials, Venturing Leader Specific and Sea Scout Officers' Specialized Trainings will be offered on Saturday, April 26, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Monday, April 28, 6:30-10:00 p.m. at the Connecticut Yankee Council Resource Center, 60 Wellington Road, Milford. Venturing Crew leaders are required to attend only the first session. Sea Scouting leaders must attend both sessions. This course will cover leadership and organization, Crew/Ship structure, advancement and awards, Advisor's/Skipper's responsibilities, resources and program planning, and much more.
Venturing Leader Specific Training and Sea Scout Officers' Specialized Training are geared toward Crew Advisors and Sea Scouters, but Council and District volunteers who support the Venturing or Sea Scouting programs will find this information useful as well.
Completion of these courses fulfills requirements for the Venturing Leader's and Sea Scouter's Training Awards and is a prerequisite for Seabadge and Wood Badge Trainings. Having your top leader trained is a requirement for the Quality Unit Award. This course includes Venturing Youth Protection.
The training registration form is attached. A $5.00 fee includes training materials and coffee. Registrations must be received by April 18. Late registrants and walk-ins will be charged $10.00. Sea Scouts Committee - Powder Horn Training Posted Jun. 30, 2008
Powder Horn training will be offered on August 22-24 and September 26-28, 2008. The August weekend will be held at Deer Lake Scout Reservation and the September weekend will be held at Camp Sequassen. Powder Horn is a training opportunity designed as an action-packed, hand-on outdoor course to expose Venturing and Sea Scouting leaders to activities and resources necessary to operate a successful Ranger Award program. Powder Horn is also open to Boy Scout leaders who are looking to enhance their high adventure programs.

Powder Horn will help leaders to safely conduct fun and challenging outdoor activities, provide an introduction to the resources necessary to lead young people in a high adventure program, familiarize leaders with the Ranger Award program so that he/she can help Venturers/Sea Scouts in meeting the requirements for the award, and expose leaders to the outdoor/high adventure activities core to the Ranger Award. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in the following activities: backpacking, communication, conservation project development, cooking, emergency preparedness, expedition planning, first aid, plants & ecology, wilderness survival, land navigation, leave no trace camping, mountaineering, outdoor living history, shooting sports, and more.
