| Venturing Committee - Powder Horn Training |
Posted Jun. 30, 2008 |
Powder Horn training will be offered on August 22-24 and September 26-28, 2008. The August weekend will be held at Deer Lake Scout Reservation and the September weekend will be held at Camp Sequassen. Powder Horn is a training opportunity designed as an action-packed, hand-on outdoor course to expose Venturing and Sea Scouting leaders to activities and resources necessary to operate a successful Ranger Award program. Powder Horn is also open to Boy Scout leaders who are looking to enhance their high adventure programs.
Powder Horn will help leaders to safely conduct fun and challenging outdoor activities, provide an introduction to the resources necessary to lead young people in a high adventure program, familiarize leaders with the Ranger Award program so that he/she can help Venturers/Sea Scouts in meeting the requirements for the award, and expose leaders to the outdoor/high adventure activities core to the Ranger Award. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in the following activities: backpacking, communication, conservation project development, cooking, emergency preparedness, expedition planning, first aid, plants & ecology, wilderness survival, land navigation, leave no trace camping, mountaineering, outdoor living history, shooting sports, and more.
