Cub Scout Family Scouting Coming January 2018
Connecticut Yankee Council will be an early adopter of Family Scouting for Cub Scouts effective January 15, 2018, based upon guidelines of the National Council of the BSA to welcome girls into its Cub Scout program. Special Roundtable presentation January 3, 2018

Powahay District - First Aid and CPR Courses Posted Dec. 21, 2017
First Aid and CPR for Adult Scout Leaders courses coming up on Saturday, December 30th and Saturday, January 6th., -- 9 am to 5 pm at the Darien Scout Cabin, 140 West Ave.

Wilderness First Aid (Sixteen hour advanced course for those going to Philmont and the various high adventure bases) will be held January 13th and 27th (both days required). Please note that First Aid and CPR is prerequisite to Wilderness First Aid. WFA participants must have valid, unexpired First Aid and CPR cards, preferably from us or from an equivalent agency. 8:30 am to 5 pm at the Darien Scout Cabin, 140 West Ave.

Powahay District - Klondike Derby 2018 Posted Jan. 18, 2018

Klondike Derby
Iditarod—Race For Hope

It is time once again to load up the sleds, harness the dog team and head for Alaska at Hoyt Scout Reservation for the annual Klondike Derby competition.

The Klondike is being organized as a day event for Saturday and will be hosted at the lower part of Hoyt. Camping one or two nights is optional and under troop leadership. Opening ceremony will be at the field in front of the Jackson Pavilion, The Klondike will officially end with a closing and awards ceremony at 4:30 pm on Saturday. Troops camping Saturday night will provide their own evening program.

Klondike Derby 2018 will start with optional camping Friday night with Troops being able to set up anytime after 5 PM. Troops arriving Saturday, should be prepared for opening ceremonies by 9 AM.

Fees: $15/Youth and $12/Adult.

Powahay District - Cub Scout Polar Bear Posted Dec. 19, 2017
A special program on arts, engineering, nature and science.

We are back at the Stamford Museum and Nature Center for another Cub Scout Polar Bear. This year our event will include an exhibit by an artist named Steve Gerberich, who makes “Gadgetry” — very cool interactive machines and contraptions out of recycled materials. Join us for a day of family fun: Indoor and outdoor activities. Animals and Exhibits. Special Webelos program and Planetarium Show

Powahay District - Cub Scout Bird Watcher Award Posted Dec. 26, 2017
Earn Powahay’s Winter Bird Watchers Award at the Feb. 3 Cub Scout Polar Bear Here’s what you will need: Make or buy a birdfeeder. Hang the bird feeder where it can be observed from inside your house. Record six to eight different birds that visit your birdfeeder. For learning fun Keep a journal (notebook) of the different birds that visit your birdfeeder. Look up and record an interesting facts about the birds you see. You may want to have a bird book, binoculars and a camera. CLICK More Information for application.

University of Scouting -- A Great Day of Adult Leader Training

UoS is an all-day event focused on providing lots of Supplemental Training classes to adult leaders and Venturers. Over 150 class offerings are included in our catalog, focused on all programs (corresponding to the five "colleges" in the UoS): Commissioners, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Venturing & Exploring, as well as a broad range of General Studies courses that cut across all program lines.

Registration for Scout Day at the Maritime Aquarium will open on January 16, 2018 through the Reservation Department at the Maritime Aquarium. Please call Aquarium: 203-852-0700 x2206. M-F, 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM.

Come enjoy a day of Scout fun at The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk. Special programs are being offered just for Scouts along with all of the excitement The Maritime Aquarium offers. All of this and the largest IMAX® movie screen in Connecticut makes our Scout Day an event you do not want to miss!

Powahay District - Powahay Pinewood Derby Championship Posted Dec. 19, 2017
Powahay District’s Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Championship and the Annual Cubmobile Race, will take place on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at a location to be announced. Each Pack can select 4 Cub Scout winners to represent them in the District Championship. We hope to offer an expanded family program at this year’s Pinewood Derby Championship.

The top District winners will compete in the ConnJam Council Campionship. Top winners at ConnJam will attend the Pinewood Derby World Championship Times Square NYC. Click More Information for the “Official Derby Car Rules” to share with our Pack Winners.
