The Connecticut Yankee Council is hosting NRA Instructor classes to certify interested Scouters as rifle shooting instructors. A Scouter completing this course will be qualified to serve as an instructor on the Connecticut Yankee Council camps’ rifle ranges at weekend and summer camp activities and as a merit badge counselor for rifle shooting.

Who: The NRA classes are open to Connecticut Yankee Council Scout leaders and others interested in teaching youths the basics of the shooting sports. Participants must be 21 years old or older.

Where: The NRA Basic Rifle Course, Basic Instructor Course, and Rifle Instructor Course will all be held at Hoyt Scout Reservation located on Simpaug Turnpike in West Redding, CT.

Your Instructors: John Robinson, Bob O’Neil and Ben Cruson are National Rifle Association, Appointed Training Counselors. John has been an NRA Certified Rifle, Shotgun and Pistol Instructor for 18 years. Bob has been an NRA Certified Instructor for 15 years. Ben has been an NRA Certified Instructor for 12 years.

When: The classes will be held over two weekends. To complete NRA Rifle Instructor training, all three courses, Basic Rifle, Basic Instructor and Rifle Instructor, must be attended. The following dates are scheduled.

Cost: The cost for the three required courses is $150.00, which includes all training materials, shooting supplies, NRA materials, books etc…. Brown bag lunch is on your own. There is a small fee payable to the NRA for your instructor certification. This is a bi-annual fee, $30 or $50 depending on NRA membership status.  Please note that there is an additional fee of $20 if you’re not a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America.
