NRA Instructor Classes - 2016

Rifle & Shotgun

 

 

The Connecticut Yankee Council is hosting NRA Instructor classes to certify interested Scouters as rifle and shotgun shooting instructors.  A Scouter completing this course will be qualified to serve as an instructor on the Connecticut Yankee Council camps’ rifle and shotgun ranges at weekend and summer camp activities and as a merit badge counselor for rifle and shotgun shooting. 

 

Who: The NRA classes are open to Connecticut Yankee Council Scout leaders and others interested in teaching youths the basics of the shooting sports.  Participants must be 21 years old or older.

 

Where: The Instructor Course Pre-Qualification and Shotgun Instructor Course will be held at Camp Sequassen at 791 West Hill Road in New Hartford, CT. The Basic Instructor Course and the Rifle Instructor Course will be held at the Hoyt Training Cabin, 288 Simpaug Turnpike, Redding, CT.

 

Your Instructors:  Bob O’Neil and Ben Cruson are National Rifle Association Appointed Training Counselors.  Bob has been an NRA Certified Instructor for 13 years.  Ben has been an NRA Certified Instructor for 10 years.

 

When: The classes will be held over four weekends. You can sign up for one or both disciplines (rifle/shotgun). The NRA Instructor Course Pre-Qualification on March 5 and the NRA Basic Instructor Training on April 2 are compulsory and must be attended for all disciplines. The following dates are scheduled.

 

Pre-Qualification - Camp Sequassen        Saturday     Mar   5th      9am - 4pm

 

Basic Instructor Training - Hoyt               Saturday     Apr    2nd     9am - 4pm

 

Shotgun - Camp Sequassen                     Friday         Apr    8th     6pm – 10pm

                                                               Saturday     Apr    9th     9am – 4pm

 

Rifle - Hoyt                                              Saturday     Apr    16th   8am - 5pm                                                                     

                                                               Sunday       Apr    17th    8am –3pm

 

Cost: The cost for both certifications is $175.00. The shotgun and rifle certifications are $90.00 each, which includes all training materials, shooting supplies, NRA materials, books etc….  Brown bag lunch is on your own. There is a small fee payable to the NRA for your instructor certification. This is a bi-annual fee, $30 or 50 depending on membership status. Overnight camping will be available to Shotgun participants at Camp Sequassen, call Carolyn Cruson at 203-876-6868, Extension 273 to make a reservation.

 

Registration: The class is strictly limited to 12 students per discipline. Your payment in full reserves your space in this limited class.  To ensure your instruction materials will be here on time, please register today. Payments should be made to “Connecticut Yankee Council BSA” and mailed to Carolyn Cruson at Connecticut Yankee Council, P.O. Box 32, Milford, CT 06460-0032,  Attn: Carolyn Cruson.

 

The above fees should be paid in full to Connecticut Yankee Council BSA by 2/12/16 to ensure your space in class!

 A $25 per student late fee will be assessed after 2/12/16 so register early.

 You can reserve your space by submitting a $25 deposit anytime. Balance is due by 2/12/16!
