COST: $30
Scouts must be over 42” tall for this program and accompanied by a chaperone. All passengers must purchase a ticket to be on the cruise. What better way to explore Long Island Sound than aboard the Aquarium’s research vessel, RV Spirit of the Sound? During this cruise, scouts will observe animals in and out of the water including plankton, mollusks, crustaceans, and birds! Through activities and discussion, they’ll learn how all organisms are connected and important to our global ecosystem.

FLOATS & BOATS ADVENTURE – TIGERS
TIME: 10:30 A.M. – 12 P.M.
COST: $12
Take a dive at The Maritime Aquarium! In this program, scouts will visit our seals and identify adaptations that help them to survive in the wild. They will also create a boat using recycled materials and test how well it floats.

This program will help meet requirement 6 of the “Floats & Boats Adventure.”

SPIRIT OF WATER ADVENTURE- WOLVES
TIME: 10:30 A.M. – 12 P.M.
COST: $12
What makes a turtle a turtle? And how are they able to live on land and in the ocean? In this program, scouts will see the different types of turtles that live at the Aquarium and learn how they differ from each other. Scouts will also discuss the challenges sea turtles face in the wild, like pollution, and how we can overcome those challenges. They will reinforce the lesson with a hands-on activity that explains how pollution gets into the water.

This program will help meet requirements 1 and 2 of the “Spirit of the Water Adventure.”

SUPER SCIENCE – BEARS
TIME: 1:30 – 3:00 P.M.
COST: $12
Sharks are one of the most misunderstood animals at the Aquarium. In this program, scouts will learn about misconceptions, shark adaptations, and why they are at the top of the food chain. To develop a better understanding of how sharks swim, scouts will do experiments to learn about buoyancy and discuss how their newfound knowledge relates to sharks.

This program will help meet requirement 3 of the “Super Science Adventure.”

DOWN AND DIRTY STEM AWARD – WEBELOS
TIME: 1:30 – 3:00 P.M.
COST: $12
Join us for a closer look at two important ecosystems near the Maritime Aquarium. We will head outside to make observations about the Norwalk river, record our observations, and brainstorm ways that we as humans can affect this ecosystem. Back in the classroom, we will also get a chance to meet some of the animals we can find in a tidepool. Using our same observational skills, we will be able to make inferences about the animals based on their adaptations to diagram how a tidepool would look at high tide and low tide.

This program will help meet 3D-3 (Aquatic Ecosystems) and 3D-7 (Tidepools).

In between your programs join us at the Powahay Table for the Bigfoot Leave No Challenge. Earn a Bigfoot patch for being certified in conservation awareness. Fun program for all, no extra fees.
