NRA Shotgun Instructor Course
The Connecticut Yankee Council is hosting an NRA Instructor class to certify interested Scouters as NRA Shotgun Shooting Instructors. A Scouter completing this course will be qualified to serve as an instructor on the Connecticut Yankee Council camps’ shotgun range at weekend and summer camp activities and as a merit badge counselor for shotgun shooting.
Who: The NRA classes are open to Connecticut Yankee Council Scout leaders and others interested in teaching youths the basics of the shooting sports. Experience with shotgun shooting is strongly recommended.
Participants must:
- be 21 years old or older
- have successfully completed the NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting Course
Where: The Basic Shotgun Instructor Course will be held at Camp Sequassen at 791 West Hill Road in New Hartford, CT.
When: The classes will be held Friday, April 9 through Sunday, April 11.
Camp Sequassen Friday April 9 8:30pm – 10pm
Saturday April 10 8am – 10pm
Sunday April 11 8am – 5:30pm
Cost: The cost for this certification is $200.00, which includes all training materials, shooting supplies, NRA materials, books etc…. Sleeping accommodations are available. Please indicate your preference to stay overnight when registering. Meals (2 continental breakfasts, and 1 dinner on Saturday) will be provided, however those with special dietary needs should plan their own meals. Please plan to bring your own bagged lunch for Saturday and Sunday. There is a refrigerator for food storage. There is a small fee payable to the NRA for your instructor certification. This is a bi-annual fee, $30 or $50 depending on NRA membership status.

Please note: This course was postponed from Fall 2020. We are still assessing how many of the original registrants are able to attend this new weekend. If you register and are put on “stand by,” we will let you know when we can guarantee you a spot in the course.
